Hi, I'm Abin Mathew.
I'm a developer and digital creator based in the United Arab Emirates, with a passion for building clean, purposeful tools that make information accessible to everyone — regardless of background or technical ability.
WhatGenerationAmI.net started as a personal curiosity project. I kept finding myself in conversations about whether someone was a Millennial or Gen Z, and the existing resources online were either too sparse or buried in ads. So I built the resource I wished existed: a beautifully presented, factually grounded, completely free tool that gives real answers with real context.
Living in the UAE — one of the world's most multicultural hubs — has shaped my perspective on how generational identity works differently across cultures and geographies. The site reflects that global lens: it's designed for curious people everywhere, not just one country.
What makes this
different?
Research-backed
Generation dates and descriptions are grounded in sources like Pew Research Center, the US Census Bureau, and the Strauss–Howe generational theory.
Global perspective
Built from the UAE with a worldwide audience in mind. Generational stories are told beyond the American lens, with context that resonates globally.
Completely ad-free
No ads, no trackers, no email popups. The tool was built to be genuinely useful — not to monetise attention.
Instant & private
Everything runs locally in your browser. No birth year is ever sent to a server. Fast, private, and works on any device.
More than a label
Beyond just naming your generation, the site provides historical context, defining events, pop culture, technology, and cusp identities.
Always free
This is a passion project. There are no plans to charge for it, gate content, or add subscriptions. It will remain free for everyone, forever.
Designed in the

The UAE is home to over 200 nationalities — it's one of the most generationally and culturally diverse places on earth. Building this tool here means it's been shaped by conversations with people from every corner of the world.
